Operation Husky – Mt Roskill homicide update

A post mortem is underway today for the 23-year-old victim of Thursday’s Mt Roskill homicide.

Over 20 Police staff are continuing with enquiries today including the ongoing Glass Road scene examination and a local area canvas.

“It’s Christmas Day and a family is grieving, and a community is distressed because of what has happened in their neighbourhood,” says Detective Inspector Scott Beard.

“Despite it being a holiday, the investigation team is committed to understanding what occurred and identifying who is responsible.”

Man dies following water-related incident at Great Barrier Island

Police can confirm a man has died following a water-related incident at Great Barrier Island this evening.

The incident was reported to emergency services shortly before 6pm.

Police are making enquiries in relation to the death on behalf of the coroner.

Person dies after being struck by vehicle, Auckland City

Auckland City

A person has died after being struck by a vehicle on Rosamund Avenue, New Windsor last night.

The incident happened just before 10.30pm on Saturday.

The person died at the scene.

An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances.

UPDATE: Operation Husky – Mt Roskill Homicide

Police can now release the name of the victim of Thursday’s Mt Roskill homicide.

He was Brian James, aged 23, of Auckland.

A post mortem has been completed and Brian’s body is now back with his whānau.

The Police investigation into Brian’s death is ongoing with the Glass Road scene examination and area canvas continuing today.

“A key focus for us is understanding exactly why our three victims were targeted,” says Detective Inspector Scott Beard.

Operation Husky – Mt Roskill homicide update

A significant police presence remains at the scene of a fatal shooting on Glass Road in Mt Roskill as the homicide investigation continues into the death of a man.

The man, aged 23, died as a result of a gunshot wound injury after two armed offenders are reported to have entered the address shortly before 9.30pm last night.

Four occupants were inside the address at the time.

One of the offenders was armed with a firearm while the second offender was armed with a machete.

Search for Atonio Finau: Police release CCTV footage of last sighting + statement from family

Police are releasing CCTV footage of the last known sighting of Atonio Finau, as concerns mount for the wellbeing of the missing Auckland man.

Mr Finau, aged 65, was last seen on Tuesday 16th November 2021 after he caught a bus at Laingholm and exited the bus at the New Lynn bus depot shortly before 3pm.

Despite extensive enquiries, Police have not been able to determine Mr Finau’s movements following this time and his whereabouts remain unknown.

Homicide investigation launched following death of man in Mt Roskill

Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was shot and killed at an address in Mt Roskill last night.

At around 9.30pm, Police were notified of an incident at an address on Glass Road.

Two armed offenders have entered the address and an altercation has taken place with the occupants inside the house.

One of the occupants, a man in his 20’s, received a gunshot wound and has died at the scene.

Serious incident, Glass Road, Mount Roskill

Police are in attendance following a report of an incident at an address on Glass Road in Mount Roskill, Auckland.

The report was received about 9:30pm.

Multiple people have been injured at the address.

There will be a heavy Police presence in the area while enquiries are made. No arrests have been made at this stage.

Arrests made following Ōtāhuhu homicide

Police have now arrested and charged three people for the murder of Ōtāhuhu man Peter Rasmussen.

Police launched a homicide investigation after the 75 year old was shot and killed in his home on 22 August 2021.

Three men, aged 18, 21 and 29 have been jointly charged with murder and are expected to appear in Counties Manukau District Court today.

The investigation is ongoing and Police cannot rule out the possibility of further charges being laid.
